Tony read Greats at Oxford before qualifying as an FCA with Arthur Andersen. He subsequently served for fifteen years at Citibank in a range of senior banking and general management positions, in London and then in Nairobi, as Regional Director for the bank’s businesses in seventeen countries. In parallel to his line management roles, he was a Citibank Senior Credit Officer.
Tony was a deputy CEO at banks in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, before becoming Group MD of Ecobank, a West African regional bank based in Lomé, Togo, now the largest bank in Sub-Sahara Africa.
For twelve years he was an independent consultant, advising on high level strategy at banks and other companies in emerging and/or developing markets, or linked to such markets. He advised the Bank of England on corporate governance at three UK regulated, foreign-owned banks in London.
Tony has served as CEO of two publicly listed companies, a finance company in Seoul, quoted on the Korea Stock Exchange, and a mining exploration company quoted on PLUS Market in London.
He has held non-executive directorships at banks in Africa, mining companies in the Philippines and Indonesia and a financial holding company in Hong Kong. He is currently also a non-executive director at a renewable energy company in Tanzania.
